3‑Day Tsavo East National Park Safari | Theatre of the Wild

Unleash the Raw Beauty of Kenya’s Largest National Park

Known as the “Theatre of the Wild,” Tsavo East is one of the oldest and largest parks in Kenya. It offers a truly untamed wilderness experience, characterized by its vast semi-arid plains and the iconic “Red Elephants”—majestic creatures that take on a distinct reddish hue from the park’s iron-rich soil. This 3‑day safari is perfect for those seeking solitude, big-sky photography, and a deep connection with nature.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Tsavo East National Park

Your safari kicks off with an early morning departure from Nairobi. As we head down the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, you’ll watch the landscape transform into the beautiful, rugged scrubland of the east.

  • Afternoon: Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch and a short rest. Later, head out for your first game drive. We’ll keep an eye out for the “Big Five” and the unique northern bird species.

  • Evening: Return to your camp for dinner and an evening overlooking the vast, star-lit plains.

  • Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: Full Day Exploration of Tsavo East

Today is a deep dive into the park’s hidden gems. After an early breakfast, we set off for a full-day game drive with a packed picnic lunch to maximize our time in the wilderness.

  • Key Stops: We’ll visit Mudanda Rock, a massive 1.5km long outcrop that acts as a natural water catchment, drawing hundreds of elephants. We’ll also explore the Galana River and the thunderous Lugard Falls, where you can spot hippos and giant crocodiles.

  • Afternoon: Game drive around Aruba Dam, a magnet for zebras, buffaloes, and predators like lions and cheetahs.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Sunrise Game Drive & Return to Nairobi

Wake up for a final sunrise game drive—the perfect time to catch predators on the move before the heat of the day.

  • Late Morning: After breakfast at the lodge, we begin our journey back to Nairobi. (Note: Because Tsavo East is halfway to the coast, we can also drop you off in Mombasa/Diani if you wish to extend your holiday to the beach).

  • Meals: Breakfast
