Samburu Game Reserve
Samburu National Reserve is located southwest of the Rift Valley bordering the Ewaso Nyiro River which separates it from the Buffalo Springs National Reserve. Spanning 165 Km², the Samburu game reserve hosts several rare species like the Beisa Oryx (Also referred to as Samburu Special), the Grevy Zebra, the Somali Ostrich, the Reticulated Giraffe, and Gerenuk. The park also hosts the big 5 including Kamunyak the Miracle Lioness that adapted the baby Oryx, 5 vulnerable species (African Darter, Great Egret, White-headed Vulture, Martial Eagle, and the Yellow-billed Ox-pecker), and 400 bird species. The Samburu reserve also boasts a beautiful landscape with riverine forests amidst a semi-arid ecosystem.
